Leaving Las Vegas

The blog went dark while I was lost in Las Vegas at the CES show. In the hectic pace of maintaining booth presence and trying to visit others at the show, I end up with no life– at least as I could detect it. CES is a remarkable and indescribable event that has a different meaning for each of the thousands of attendees. For a startup company it was a great experience and the start of many good relationships.

We were displaying at the newly added outpost at the Sands. Last year this was in the “tents” out front of the convention center and it did seem very crowded in the small space, so it was good to have some elbowroom at the Sands. The quality of contacts assures me that I can look forward to being lost in Las Vegas again next year.

One new dimension of being at the Sands was the co-location of an adult entertainment show. Generally it was pretty easy to tell the difference in attendees. The visit of two dominatrix, which must be dominatrices, to our booth certainly turned more heads than anything we could offer, but I don’t think we will hire them for full-time duty next year.

As interesting as that was, I missed the best visitor to our booth. A local from Las Vegas went on for a while about some very strange experiences. This individual shared that there was a black hole in his kitchen, which seemed strange enough. The best part was that it was a great place to dispose of the garbage. I wonder how much we could sell that for if we could turn it into a product. Las Vegas often seems like another planet and in ways that I had not imagined.

As I reflect back on the week, I am sure I will find more to blog about. It was a great week of visiting old friends and meeting new ones.
